Welcome to Chagdud Gonpa Odsal Ling (hereinafter also referred to as the "Gonpa"). Our team is at your disposal. Please contact us if you need any assistance during your stay. As part of your application, we ask you to read the following information and, at the end, sign the disclaimer.
Chagdud Gonpa Odsal Ling was established as a center for the study and practice of Vajrayana Buddhism in 1993 by His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche. Most of our work is carried out by a team of volunteers and includes the ongoing development of a retreat center and its administration. Our work has been supported by donations and the sale of books and dharma items in store.
In order to help fulfil the aspirations of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche and Lama Tsering Everest for the Gonpa, we ask everyone to observe the following guidelines and to declare, by signing this agreement, that they aware of the following:
SAFETY:
As we continue to expand our accommodations and facilities, there will be periods when heavy machinery and vehicles will be in use. The forests that surround us are reserves of flora and fauna and several species of animais and insects circulate through our lands, including some requiring certain precautions, such as spiders and snakes. Please remain alert and prevent accidents. We value your participation in our events and ask you to be responsible for your safety and wellbeing. You are responsible for the personal objects you bring to the practices and events held at the Gonpa. Any objects brought to the Gonpa and not claimed within 30 (thirty) days from the date of the event will be donated. Parking on our property is provided free of charge and we are not responsible for any accidents, theft or robbery of vehicles parked on our property.
MEDICAL CARE:
We do not have an área for medical care or specialized professionals. Eventually, certain practitioners/visitors with healthcare training may be able to offer help or consultations. If you wish to accept this assistance, please understand that they are acting on their own initiative and not on behalf of or under the direction of the Gonpa.
CHILDREN:
We ask parents who bring their children to Chagdud Gonpa Odsal Ling to take full responsibility for their wellbeing. Children must be supervised by an adult full-time. Children are welcome in the meditation hall, as long as they don't make any noise or run around. They should sit next to their parents or guardian and may use a silent toy or a book. We ask that you do not allow them to enter the kitchen or play at any construction sites. We have a reserved area for children located in the mezzanine of the Gonpa. The teachings may possibly be listened to in this room so that the parents can take care of their children at the same time.
USE OF THE MEDITATION HALL:
The meditation hall, where religious practices are carried out, is open from 5:30 am to 10 pm. It is important to maintain an attitude of respect and decorum in this room. This includes sitting with your legs crossed or to one side when sitting on the floor on cushions, and never with your feet pointing toward the Lamas or the altar. Do not step over meditation benches, texts, sacred objects, or your fellow practitioners. Do not put texts on the floor, or lay down inside the meditation room. In some events, practitioners will be instructed to dress in ritual clothing (chuba and zen), which are available for purchase at our store. The use of mobile phones is prohibited within the meditation hall. It is strictly forbidden to take pictures of the inside of the meditation room and the Stupa.
